According to the archives, Children's Musical School № 1 of Penza is one of the oldest schools of Russia.

The newspaper «Gubernskie Vedomosti» № 209 of 29th September 1882:
«On the24th September at 6 p. m. in the Hall of the local Nobiliti there was a special praying service on the opening of the musical school. The head of the Musical Society L. A. Tatischeva, the governor and the founders of the school were present at the sevice».

The historical roots, the successione of the generations - that's what is forming the creative atmosphere of the school.

Among the 5000 graduates there are famous composers N. G. Minh; G. G. Kreitner; P. I. Londonov; Bolshoi Theatre conductor B. Haikin; professors of Moscow, Kazan, Minsk Conservatoires – E. Makarov; N. Chernyaev, A. Kokushkine; singers A. A. Yakhontov, I. M. Scobtsove.

The modern glory of the school is created by its graduates whose names are know both in this country and abroad – A. Mochalov (The People's Artist of Russia; L. Bolkovskaja (docent of the Urals conservatoire); I. Shestajev (postgraduate of Berlin conservatoire, organe); Tamara and Vasili Romadin (the founders of the Russian musical school «Glinka» in the Spain town Granada); T. Pichkaeva (pianist, St. Peterburg); L. Usova (Member of Euro-Asian Academy of Television); A. Makarsky (theater and cinema actor); I. Gersh (USA), M. Kokorin (Honoured artist of Russia); A. Gerasimov (Participant of the International Chaikovsky Festival).

The school's mission is to awake the creative activities of each student, to find out musically talented children.

At present the school unites 50 teachers, 400 students on the following specialities: piano, violine, viola, violoncello, double-bass, clarinet, flute, saxophone; folk instruments (domra, balalaika, accordion, guitar); choire singing.

Some children's collectives work very successfully: the chamber orchestra and the orchestra of Russian folk instruments, the choire of junior classes and the choire of senior classes, the boys' choire «Vivat» and a lot of ansambles.

 Since 1993 our school has annually been carrying the open competition on composition «Creation of Youth». The jury is headed by the Honoured Art Woker, a member of the Composers'Union of Russian Federation G. V. Chernov.
